Great for a romantic lunch or dinner. Seating out by the river. Have brought the kids as well and they enjoyed it as well. Great martinis! My favorite is the Greatful Dread.

Great brunch, great value. We haven't always been that wild about Bailiwick's but maybe we have found their sweet spot. Brunch this past Sunday on their deck combined a delightful atmosphere with a small but very well prepared brunch menu, at fantastic prices. My husband felt his créme bruleé french toast was about the best he's ever had. My 3-egg omelet filled with roast veggies was also great as were the crunchy hash browns. For $39 including tip, mimosa, coffee, etc., that is really great. Yes you should be ready for families - there were babies squealing occasionally and so on. Not a problem for us, everyone was having a good time. For brunch in St. J this is the place to go.

Stopped here for dinner looking for a burger & we found them! The restaurant is a mix of fancy and casual. We sat on the bar side to watch football, but there is a dining room side as well. It offers many options from filet mignon to burgers (which is what we wanted). The beer selection is great, catering to the local breweries, and our food was delicious! Definitely a crowd pleaser in terms of food options.

Nice surprise in Vermont not what you would expect in a rural area, nice converted mill on the river with a unique menu and a nice setup. food was very good and the specials we very good as well

This place is a gem. Great food, great view, great drinks. We were 6 and everyone agreed we gonna save it for the next travel to Vermont. Quick service and sane prices too.

Great food a very nice relaxing atmosphere, if it's a nice night YOU HAVE TO SIT OUTSIDE. It's beautiful out there. A little on the pricy side but I don't mind paying for an all around good experience.

Great food. Great atmosphere, especially on the deck. Superior serviced. And the dessert was to die for,. Our life is complete! Well, almost. A must visit, especially if you are visiting Vermont. Our last state of the 50 club!

Every town needs at least one "Let's have something fancy tonight" type place, and Bailiwicks fills that niche in St. Johnsbury. I'll be open about the fact that I liked it a bit more when it was still "Elements" a few years back, but so it goes I guess. When it's good, it's great. The drinks are always good, and the menu options enticing. The reason I can't in good conscience go higher than three stars is because of consistency. Some nights we come out completely satisfied. Other times service is painfully slow, menu items are unavailable and portions sizes are lacking on some items (especially if you order the ravioli, which comes with no sides whatsoever for the same cost as a chicken entrée with starch and veggie.) We haven't yet figured out a pattern, so it might be that certain nights are just inherently better because of the staff. I would never say it's bad, but for the cost I wish it was more consistent in how good it is. Because when they're on their game there's nothing better in the local area. But frankly, that just isn't always the case. And we've had enough "off" nights there that I can't just chalk it up to a fluke. I'd say it's about a 70/30 good to meh ratio.

Food was pretty good, but they won't accept their own Yelp deal. I don't really care about the buck-fifty, but it just irks me that they have a deal on here to encourage people to come to their restaurant and won't honor it. Would have definitely rated 5 stars, but it feels shady and I don't like it.

Nice dinner, cool atmosphere in old mill. Parking and area seem a little out of the way but well worth it. Great staff ,knowledgeable about the menu. Would definitely go back next time we are in area.

Traveling through the area and visited Bailiwick's because of the Yelp reviews. I was pleased with the experience and will recommend it. Excellent entrée salad and wonderful breaded eggplant & ratatouille dish! Ordered an Moscow Mule and found it rather small and weak for $9. However, the food was definitely more important (and better) than the drink.

Went here for a special occasion dinner and was not disappointed! First, awesome service. I haven't been waited on that well in a decade. Plus, the food was outstanding. It was the kind of meal that had me fantasizing about what I could create at home. Roasted beet hummus, ribs, ravioli ratatouille, mushroom soup, all things that I wish I could make and might try to. It's a shame we don't live closer!

They were packed when my group showed up, we were lucky enough to get a seat at small bar stools off to the side. Children aren't aloud to sit at the bar, I can understand that, but still annoying. Food was great and so was service, a tad slow but they were cranking busy! I also suggest the jalapeño margarita! Yum.

Found this place on the internet and was so happy that I did. St. Johnsbury needed another restaurant and OMG this is such a great place. Liked it so much that my husband and I went there both nights we were in town. I suggest making a reservation because even when they open at 5 p.m. they fill up quickly. This is one of the few places we've been to that had enough servers that no one ever was waiting to place an order or get a drink refilled. Servers Breana and Emily took great care of us. They were extremely knowledgeable about the menu and made good suggestions regarding dinner choices. I have never enjoyed hummus until I tried the fresh made beet hummus at this place with homemade pita chips. I wish we lived closer to this amazing restaurant because we would definitely go at least once a week.

Waited over an hour and a half to get fish and chips. The fish was dry and they forgot the French fries

First time coming here and I had heard good things, like how it is well worth the price. First off the waitress did not introduce herself. I had ordered the filet mignon from the specials and that is not what she brought me. She didn't even offer to bring me what I had ordered! Also my husbands ravioli was cold. However the duck confit appetizer was amazing and so is the atmosphere. Perhaps my timing was bad but more likely it was the lack of experience in the wait staff.

My #1 place to go for a lite bite, meet up with friends or a specialty drink. Love the atmosphere in the bar, which is always lively and upbeat. It's the kind of place where time flies and you always feel comfortable. If the night is warm, sit on the deck overlooking the river. As one of the only solid places in town, if you can call ahead to let them know you are coming (esp. thurs, fri, sat) it's a good idea. Food - yum! To start, try the maple/lime or buffalo wings, a specialty flat bread and my favorite...fried dill pickles. Crab cakes (small but delish) I usually get them on a salad. For entrees everything I've tried has been exceptional. If I have one complaint its that they stopped making their exceptional trout cakes - tell them to bring 'em back! Don't miss this place in St. J or Littleton, NH. P.S. you can park in the back, too :)

We have been here three times now and have not been disappointed; fantastic food with eclectic combos that work, very friendly staff, extensive cocktail menu, kid friendly and highly recommended.

Stopped in for lunch on a Saturday in St. J, (not a town we're often in) and enjoyed a perfectly cooked burger with really good fries and a couple of Switchbacks. Very cool old mill interior with friendly service and good food. A more extensive draft list would get the final star!

In a charming spot on the river, Ballywicks offers casual lounge booth seating or tables in the dining room, overlooking the river. The Bar is superb, and the local Barr Hill gin, is off the hook! Best gin ever! Speaking of the best, our server Jane sets the standard of excellence for reastaurant service. As a former waitress, I'm a little exacting when it comes to table service. Jane was thoroughly familiar with the menu, not overly opinionated, but intuitive and offered informed guidance on menu choices. Charming, warm and professional, Jane is as good as it gets and made our evening a memorable one. Thanks, Jane!

Best food I had while in Vermont. Caesar was the grub, NY was seasoned and cooked at the perfect temperature. Chill surroundings while being quite packed - all in all, a great spot. And the manhattans weren't too bad either! Ya feel me?

Out of town visitors; Very satisfied! Family of 7 enjoyed, Filet, Top Sirloin, Mahi Mahi, and two pasta dishes. The pork shanks were perfectly cooked. We will return.

Great fresh ingredients used in all menu items. Also an excellent kids' menu--I recommend the flatbread for kids with the veggie side. We sat outside on the porch, which now has a cover. It is a lovely setting, as you can hear the falls going. Prompt and attentive service as well.

My favorite restaurant for a special night out. The food is nearly always excellent, and the atmosphere is upscale yet fun-loving. Lively but not noisy bar with a huge and entertaining drink menu.

Went there a couple weeks ago, sat at the bar as without reservations they had nothing. We actually preferred the bar, outstanding cocktails. Ordered mussels, which were good, i had a cajun seafood dish that was good but a little over priced and my wife had a pasta dish that was decent but also over priced. Our other nitpick is that the food was warm, not hot, as if it had been sitting too long. I would go back but i would stick.to the bar menu......which was one of the 5 menus and lists we were presented.....which was a little overkill.... But the cocktails......so good.

Find Bailiwick's on Mill. It's right on the train tracks and if you're lucky it will add to your experience. Infused with blue cheese the buffalo wings are some of the best I've ever had. The view from the outside balcony over the river is breathtaking. At the bar I had a few Trout beers but the normal seating is somewhere special enough for date-night. Lively hardworking staff make this place a must while in St. Johnsbury, VT.

Glad we had reservations on Saturday of Columbus Day weekend. The interior is great and rustic. The martinis were fabulous. I had the fuzzy pear and the cucumber basil gimlet. The pear one was my favorite. The mussel appetizer was tasty but not really remarkable for me. The pork shank appetizer however, another story altogether. Me and my date went bonkers for them. So good. Tender and juicy with a crispy outside. I ordered the prime rib and thought it was pretty good. He got the mahi mahi and enjoyed it. The desert was yummy. All in all I'd definitely return but try something else for my main dish.

Awesome restaurant! The decor is great (but hasn't changed much from when it was Elements). The menu is outstanding. The food is excellent. The staff is extra friendly. Definitely the finest dining experience in St. Johnsbury. Go...Go...Go!!!

Our third time at Bailiwicks in St Jay. As it is said, "third time is a charm", We went on a Friday night, busy but well organized. We had reservations and were promptly seated at a comfortable table . Our waitress a young woman named Katie was there as soon as we were all seated to take drink orders and bring menus and a wine list. I must say she was one of the best wait people we have ever had and made our evening truly enjoyable. There were four of us, we started out with apps ,crab cakes, mussels, calamari and a veggie dish, wonderful presentation, especially the calamari, and they tasted as great as they looked. My wife had a salmon & shrimp dish that she said was delicious. The other couple had a pasta cajun dish and a chicken veggie dish. I had the pork Osso Buco, with polenta, I havent had one that good since the Beal House chef who left years ago made it. Fabulous dish!! We will continue going back AND hopefully we will be able to get Katie again as our waitress, she truly enhanced our wonderful dining experience at Bailiwicks. We would like to ask for one thing, Please start serving bread again those who want it. Thank you for giving us a nice place to dine in St Jay. Mike B
